Nahum 1-3

“Woe to the city of blood” (3:1). The prophecy against Nineveh (probably a different era than Jonah) reveals the true condition of unrepentant humanity. God sees the violence, pain, and suffering humans cause one another and themselves due to sin, and one day his wrath will be “poured out like fire” (1:6). Without his mercy, humanity is in bondage to sin and powerless to change. “Nothing can heal you; your wound is fatal” (3:19). But there is “good news;” there is One who proclaims peace (1:15).

Nahum prophesied disaster, but he reminded people that there was a better way: “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him” (1:7).
