Psalm 44
/“Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love” (26). Experiencing shame and disgrace (9-16), God’s people looked back andremembered their history. They knew their ancestors’ success was not due to their own efforts: “It was not by their sword that they won the land” (3). Instead, “it was your right hand ... the light of your face, for you loved them” (3). Now in trouble, they trusted that the same grace extended to their ancestors would be shown to the present generation.
“I put no trust in my bow” (6). We don’t receive God’s help because we deserve it or because we are winners; we simply trust in his unfailing love and mercy .
