John 6
/“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” (51). The Jewish people remembered that God had supplied manna for their ancestors (31), and Jesus showed that he could also meet their needs by multiplying bread (1-13). Yet, he declared, he himself was the real source of Life for those who would receive him: “The one who feeds on me will live because of me” (57).
“I am the bread of life” (41). Jesus offers more than answers to our practical needs. He wants to unite himself with us so that our souls are satisfied and we truly live.
